How Do I....?

Following are frequently asked questions that we get at the front desk. If you are looking for information that you don't see on this page, please feel free to call the library and ask staff for assistance @ 563-289-4242 option 4 or email library@leclaireiowa.gov.


Get a Library Card

If you reside or own property within in our service area (LeClaire city limits or LeClaire residents within Scott County), you are eligible to receive a library card free of charge, as part of your tax-supported library service.
Your library card allows you to:

  • Borrow books from our local library, all RiverShare member libraries, as well as most other public libraries in Iowa.

  • Use special online collections to find magazine articles and information you can't get just by searching the web.

  • Request materials from other RiverShare libraries through Interlibrary Loan (a free delivery service)

To get a library card:

  1. Complete a Patron Registration Slip (available at the Circulation Desk). *Registration for patrons 18 yrs. and under requires signature of parent/guardian.

  2. Present a photo ID listing your current address. * If your ID does NOT supply your current address, please provide an additional form of ID verifying your current address at the time of registration- a piece of mail, rental lease, vehicle registration, bank statement, etc.

Renew Books

  • You may renew library materials in person, by phone or email at library@leclaireiowa.gov .

  • You may also renew your materials online through the RiverShare Online Catalog - the library’s online catalog.
    Renewal requests received after the due date will be considered overdue and will be assessed overdue fines according the library's Fine Policy.

    Note: New material or items with HOLDS might not be eligible for renewal.

Place Materials on HOLD/Reserve
Library materials from our library collection or the collection of other libraries within the Prairie Area Library System may be placed on HOLD/Reserve through the RiverShare Online Catalog.
