Homework Help @ Le Claire Community Library

  In the Library

We offer Drop In Homework Help on Tuesdays and Thursdays
from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.
when school is in session. Be sure to bring
your assignment with you! Volunteers will be available to help you find
resources and work with you on assignments. We won't give you the
answers, but we will help you find them!

Need help and we don't have a volunteer available? Ask at the desk -
one of our favorite things to do is help people find stuff - any stuff!

  At Home

Maybe you waited until the night before it was due, or you want to
get an early start over the weekend. Either way, we have some
online resources available for you! Try our Electronic Resources
page - you can use your library card to use Ebscohost at home to
do research or use PrairieCat to find books on your topic and have
them delivered (usually in 3 to 7 days) to the Le Claire Community
Library.

  Surfing the 'Net for Help

Remember, though, that anybody anywhere can use, post to, or
create a web site.
They don't have to be an expert, they don't have
to have any education or knowledge - just an account with a Internet
service provider. Just because a web site says its so, doesn't
make it true!

And because there's no "virtual librarian" to help you decide
what's a good source and what's not, you have to use your own
judgment when using the Internet for resources.

The Library has not reviewed and does not endorse the following web sites. The
Library has not reviewed or endorsed any links from those web sites.
We believe
these sites will help you, but cannot be responsible for their content.

Some general rules:
  • Check for a listing of who's responsible for the site - is it just some person,
or is there a known group behind it? What are their qualifications? Do they
list contact information and educational/professional background information?
  • Do they ask for a credit card, or your name and address, or anything that
would be able to lead them to you, your family, or your house? Leave a site
    like that immediately.
  • Does it require a program download of something you've never used, heard
about, or seen? Don't download anything to your computer without permission,
and only from sites you know you can trust.
  • When was the last time it was updated?
  • Don't give out personal information - the person on the other end of your IM
or bulletin board could be a real creep. If it's something you wouldn't tell a
complete stranger who walks up to you at the mall, then you don't tell someone
    virtually, either.
